Quays Open Day

26 Oct 2013 – Various Locations

For one whole day, The Quays was opened up to the public for a day of free public performances, talks, tours and installations, celebrating the breadth of talent and technology on show across The Quays partnership.

Scores of people arrived despite travel disruption and took part, with over 1,000 experiencing the Audible Forces sound art show, presented by Quays Culture, which paid homage to the Piazza’s windy environment. Artists included:  Max Eastley, Mark Anderson, Jony Easterby, Kathy Hinde, Dan Fox, Nathaniel Mann and Mike Blow, with each artist creating an instrument to harness the power of the wind.

Quays Culture also co-presented The Other Forecast,  a wonderful series of performances with digital artists at the peak of their practice. Six artists were invited to create their own take on the familiar ‘weather forecast’ in front of a greenscreen, each exploring the interconnectedness of a variety of local and global systems – not just meteorological, but social, political or financial – presenting a different ‘worldview’. Artists included: Yuri Pattison, John O’Shea, Kim Noble, Shona Macnaughton, Richard DeDomenici and Ellie Harrison.
